Bioesserì, an organic restaurant in Milan

Bioesserì started as a concept about 5 years ago with the opening of their first restaurant in Milan. Shortly after this they opened a second restaurant certified ‘organic’ in Palermo, the city where the two founders where born. A few months ago the third Bioesserì Porta Nuova. Even though the modern contest in which the restaurant and bar is situated, they’ve managed to create a very warm place with different areas divided between a bar for delicious (organic) cocktails and an area dedicated to lunch and dinner to enjoy healthy and high-quality dishes.

An organic restaurant in Milan, to eat well

The most important idea behind Bioesserì is to use natural and organic ingredients. The two brothers that founded the concept, Vittorio and Saverio Borgia, want to offer their guests healthy, correct and food with a high-nutritional value. The menu is composed of vegetarian dishes, salads, plates with fish or with meat. Obviously they do follow the seasons. Also important to mention (and to try) the delicious pizzas made with four different types of doughs and cooked in the wood-oven. Don’t expect a ‘standard’ pizza here, but one with selected toppings and one that is easy to digest.

Industrial as well as welcoming

Another point of attention for Bioesserì is to try to avoid waste in the kitchen and the bar. Also the place itself is saved from neglection. The architects of MGAlab, that are also responsible for the interiors of the other two Bioesserì restaurants, have stripped the place completely to allow them to start from zero. Some of the walls remained ‘naked’, only covered with a layer of paint for technical reasons. While for the rest of the place they considered every detail in order to create a very welcoming atmosphere, using mainly natural materials. 

One enters the place in the zone dedicated to the bar. Some small tables are placed here for the lunch break or for those who want to sit-down during their aperitivo. Through a narrow but small corridor you arrive at the restaurant. First however, one passes-by a enlargement of the corridor,, like a piazza, where a big table hosts about 8 people, This is the perfect place for an informal meeting or a more intimate lunch or dinner with friends. 

The area dedicated to the restaurant is big and well-lit thanks to the high-placed windows.. Despite the dimensions of the space they have managed to create a warm area, thanks to the use of natural materials.The woodfire and the enormous wall with a selection of wines make it all feel like a living room.

Open until late

New for this Bioesserì is the fact that there is a large space dedicated to the bar in which perfect cocktails are served. Bioesserì Porta Nuova opens only at noon to welcome the first guests during lunch break. Then they remain open until late at night. It is thus the perfect place for an aperitivo at the end of a working day or an after-dinner drink. 

On the menu are around 15 kinds of cocktails: ten of them are 100% organic, the other five are thought for foodpairing. Two of them are meant to have with fish-based dishes, one with meat and the other two can be enjoyed with the famous Bioesserì pizzas. 

Off-course Bioesserì doesn’t only think of the sustainability of their ingredients. They also pay attention to the use of sustainable materials. The straws and forks they use for the aperitivo are made of corn starch, so biodegradable. And the packaging for the dishes that are delivered at home is all made of recycled and biodegradable paper. So there is no need to feel sorry for having lunch or aperitivo at Bioesserì Porta Nuova.
