“ Milan, Milan, Milan… to us, the one thing that represents this city is the courtyard. In everything from art to architecture, culture and fashion, the city is a hub of innovation. ”

Combo for a few years now has the goal to create a quiet shelter and an occasion to meet in the center of the city, more specifically in the hustling Navigli area of Milan.

It is not just a hostel. At Combo they also have a bar, a restaurant, it is a perfect place to work or to relax. And it is also an art gallery and an event location.

One of the particularities Combo Milan is the presence of the courtyard, a quiet corner typical for Milanese architecture perfect for some hours of relax during the hot summers or a place to have a drink after a day in the center of Milan.

Combo is an hostel that tries to conciliate both the spirit of the city and the needs of travellers.

The rooms at disposal are for 3, 4 or 6 people and it is possible to book single beds or entire rooms.

Combo offers different services to its guests, as for example the self check-in and a luggage storage (open 24/24), a living room and equipped kitchen, bedlinen and towels, air conditioning, a laundry room, work desks and the possibility to bring pets.

Over the years Ostello Bello has become a definition in Milan.

Its founders – travellers themselves – like to define their hostels as a true “flower in the middle of the city“. Ostello Bello was created to fullfil the desire to create a lively place, full of energy with a young and warm atmosphere. The goal of Ostello Bello is to make travellers meet the Milanese and vice versa. And honestly, their hostels are organized to welcome everyone. At the ground floor there is a bar, perfect for an aperitivo or to play some board games with (future) friends.

The first location of Ostello Bello is in the center of the historic city, only a few minutes away from the Duomo and the Navigli. It opened in 2011. In 2015, when the Expo Milano 2015 took place, they opened a second location: Ostello Bello Grande, with more beds and super convenient as it is situated just a few steps from Milan Central Station and thus ideal for those who arrive by train or from one of the airports around Milan.

In Ostello Bello Centrale there are almost 200 beds and pets are more than welcome in the private rooms. Other amenities of this location are a garden with tables and seats, board games, a terrace with BBQ, hammocks, a vegetable garden, ping pong tables and musical instruments.

Sounds like home is the motto of Madama Hostel & Bistrot, a design hostel in the Porta Romana area, not far from the Fondazione Prada. They have a particular attention for art and ecosustainability which distinguishes Madama Hostel & Bistrot from the other hostels in Milan. The spaces inside the hostel are not open only to travellers but also to everyone else – Milanese included – who wants to spent some hours in the bar. This is why it is considered “a meeting place with an inter-cultural soul, where Milanese culture and travellers come together” (ostello + bistrot).

The liberty-style building in which Madama Hostel is situated was built as a police station and after that became a hammam. Therefore, during the renovation works, it was decided to conserve the history of the place and to call the hostel ‘Madama’, which is slang for police. The blue – green colours in the hostel refer back to its life as a hammam.

Madama Hostel & Bistrot is also a museum and hosts 15 art works from writers and internationally known artists. As for example here you find the works of ZED1, who decorated most of the rooms and the shared spaces. The hostel has 13 rooms divided between dorm rooms (both female-only and mixed rooms) and double and quadruple bedrooms.

The newest amongst the hostels in Milan is YellowSquare, a hostel in the Porta Romana area. The concept is in the name: Square.

The idea of its founders it to recreate a true ‘piazza’ (the Italian word for square), ready to welcome everyone. In a city, a square is the place where the streets convert into each other, where people arrive and meet. It is a familiar, collective place used by a wide diversity of people. Therefore YellowSquare wants to be versatile, as are its services.

Are you curious to know the services of YellowSquare? Here we go:

The Baretto offers an interesting menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have delicious options for vegetarians and vegans. Amongst them for example panini (called ‘quadrotti’), salads, bruschette and bowls filled with local ingredients. If you don’t want to eat, then you can also simply stop for a coffee, a soft drink, wine, draft beer or an aperitivo.

YellowSquare is not only the place to be in case you want to eat or drink something. It has also the perfect contest to do some hours of work in their Spazio hub, a co-working space open to travellers and locals.

Besides the bar and the co-working space, Yellow hosts the Piazzetta, a small courtyard which is ideal in case you want to enjoy a drink. Salone 14 is an event space dedicated to parties, musical events, showcases, fitness courses and art. Last but not least La Chapel, a small consacrated chapel which can be rented by small groups that want to organise a party or small event.

The structure has female and mixed dormrooms with 4, 6 or 8 beds. It is also possibile to book a private room in this hostel in Milan. You can either choose to book one with 1, 2, 4 or 6 beds.
For the guests there is a variety of amenities like a laundry room, a luggage storage, a reception that is open 24 hours a day, a playground, towels (included in the private rooms, of you book a bed in the dorm rooms you can rent them), a shared bar and kitchen and the possibility to participate to one of the free city tours.
